504 A Curious Case of a Slow-Growing Intra-Oral Swelling in a Paediatric Patient

Abstract Background A 15-year-old male attended the paediatric dental department as an urgent self-referral. Clinical examination revealed a large, firm lesion in right maxilla which had been slowly increasing size for past year. No altered sensation and facial numbness was detected. The upper central incisor (UR1) missing however, primary extracted at dentist three months prior. Investigations An orthopantomogram (OPG) initial presentation illustrated well-defined radiolucency extending from first molar (UR6) to left (UL1) with root displacement of adjacent teeth. subsequent cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan identified corticated area radioopacity mixed density posterior-medial aspect. Buccal expansion premolar segment were noted. unerupted UR1 extremely displaced, lying horizontal just inferior nasal cavity. Diagnosis/Management Differential diagnoses anterior included calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour, adenomatoid tumour odontome. histopathology cystic lining taken under general anaesthetic during enucleation curettage diagnosis cyst. Discussion Calcifying cysts are very rare developmental lesions occuring due proliferation epitheluim scattered nest cells. As this case, these usually associated unerupted/impacted Awareness eruption timelines is essential identifying impacted teeth pathology. Slow growing should be early investigated within multidisciplinary teams.
